Greg's Espresso Bar has two locations in the Hunter Valley, and the Pokolbin shop on Broke Road pours Fish River Roasters' own espresso blend from 7.30am, seven days a week. The kitchen's speciality is its toasted sandwiches, among them a Pesto Chicken built on poached chicken, basil pesto and cheddar, and a Reuben with pastrami, sauerkraut and Swiss. It is a counter operation rather than a sit-down restaurant.
It opens Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 2pm and weekends from 7.30am to midday, which makes it an early coffee-and-toastie stop before the cellar doors open, and no booking is needed. The second Greg's trades in Cessnock, so there is a town option as well as the Pokolbin shop. For anyone starting a wine day early, it is a straightforward first stop for a flat white and something quick to eat rather than a long breakfast.
