Established2013

The Deck Cafe sits on the grounds of Gartelmann Wines at Lovedale, out on a deck that looks over a dam and young forest. It has been open since 2013 under chef-owner Matt Dillow, doing breakfast seven days and a tapas menu at lunch, with bread and pasta made on site and Gartelmann wines by the glass. A surcharge of 10 per cent applies on Sundays and 20 per cent on public holidays.

Lunch stops at 2.30pm, so this is a morning or early-afternoon stop rather than a dinner one. The deck and the dam views make it an easy family breakfast or a relaxed lunch between tastings, and bookings are strongly recommended at weekends and in holiday periods. The same kitchen runs cooking classes, some of them with wine education attached, for anyone who wants to do more than eat.
