Hunter Valley Ballooning has flown sunrise flights over the valley for more than thirty years. A flight is 45 to 60 minutes in the air, but the morning runs closer to four hours once you count the pre-dawn meet, the inflation and the sparkling wine and gourmet breakfast at Peterson House afterwards. The standard shared-basket ticket starts from $289, with a flexi ticket at $309 that can be refunded less a fee if the weather cancels.
Exclusive balloons run for couples at $2,300 and for groups of four to six at $3,200, both with sparkling wine and chocolates in the air. Passengers need to be seven or older, at least 120cm tall and able to stand for an hour. Launch sites move with the wind and there is no walk-in premises, so you ring a check-in line the evening before to find out whether the weather will hold.
