Australian Tourism Award for Adventure Tourism

Balloon Aloft has flown sunrise flights over the lower Hunter for more than forty-five years, and every flight meets at Peterson House on the corner of Broke Road and Wine Country Drive. The flight itself is 45 to 60 minutes, though the whole morning runs about four hours once the pre-dawn meet, the launch and the drive back are counted. Landing is followed by a gourmet breakfast and a sparkling wine tasting at Restaurant Cuvee, and the sunrise flight with breakfast starts from $299 a head.

An accessible basket fitted with an entry door runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays, for wheelchair users and anyone who would struggle to climb into a standard basket, and every ticket includes carbon offsetting. The company holds Australian Tourism Awards for Adventure Tourism and for Excellence in Accessible Tourism. Flights are pre-booked and there is no walk-up counter, so book ahead and confirm the meeting time the evening before.
