AeroHunter runs aerobatic and warbird flights from Grady Road at Pokolbin, a different kind of morning out from a cellar door. The short options put you through the manoeuvres: a 15-minute Basic flight of loops and rolls from $450, or a 20-minute Extreme flight adding snap rolls, flicks, avalanches and spins from $550. A 35-minute low-level Reconnaissance flight over the Newcastle region runs from $650.
For something rarer there are two restored World War II aircraft. The Wirraway Challenge from $1,500 puts you in one of only five of the type still flying anywhere, and from $2,500 you can go up in the only Grumman Avenger flying in Australia, an 1,800 horsepower torpedo bomber. Every flight is hosted with a full pre-flight briefing, and the operator publishes no set hours, so book and confirm timing before you drive out.
