Iron Gate Kitchen is the restaurant at Iron Gate Estate on Oakey Creek Road, a Pokolbin winery making wine since 2001. The kitchen cooks an Iberian-inspired grill over wood, smoke and fire, set in a Mediterranean-styled cellar door of imported terracotta tiles and a courtyard behind the wrought-iron gates that give the estate its name. Winemaker Geoff brings more than forty years of experience to the wines poured alongside.
The kitchen is open Friday to Tuesday and closed Wednesday and Thursday, with Friday running straight through from lunch into a 5pm to 10pm dinner sitting. Bookings are made by email. The cellar door tastes daily, six wines over about 45 minutes from $20, so a meal and a tasting fold into one stop rather than two. There is rustic wooden seating by the fireplace inside and a courtyard with vineyard views outside, which suits a long lunch by the fire.
