Carriages is a five-acre vineyard at the end of Halls Road, planted in 1998 on terra rossa over clay loam, growing Shiraz and Chardonnay that are hand-picked and made by a Hunter winemaker for the owner. The cellar door opens by appointment only, and the owner and vigneron pours, so ring ahead rather than turning up.
Most guests come to stay. There are eight ensuite rooms in the twin-gabled guesthouse and two suites in Rosebank Cottage, with a swimming pool, a tennis court, breakfast on the verandah and wallabies on the lawn. The guesthouse takes adults and children aged ten and over, while the cottage welcomes younger children and infants. No tasting price is published, so confirm it when you book. It is really a vineyard guesthouse with a cellar door attached, and a quiet one, ringed by she-oaks off the end of Halls Road.
