Savannah Estate is a third-generation Peterson project, run by Savannah Peterson with the veteran Hunter winemaker Gary Reed, and it keeps two cellar doors, one on Broke Road at Pokolbin and one out at Mount View. The family has made wine in the valley since the early 1980s, and the range is deliberately wide: Hunter Semillon, Verdelho, Albarino and Shiraz sit beside alternative whites and a set of sparklings, including a Pinot Meunier made in the traditional method. Not all the fruit is Hunter-grown, with parcels brought in from regions that suit particular varieties. The grounds are dog friendly.

A standard tasting is $20, and the one to book is the Pie and Wine Tasting: five handmade pies, four savoury and one sweet, each matched to a wine. Walk-ins are taken when there is room, though a booking is safer on weekends. The Broke Road door is central Pokolbin and easy to reach; the Mount View room sits quieter, at the foot of the range.
