Established1991

Pepper Tree was founded in 1991 and runs from a garden cellar door on Halls Road under owner John Davis and winemaker Jim Chatto. The house draws on four regions: Semillon and Shiraz from the Hunter, cool-climate whites from Orange, and Cabernet from Coonawarra and Wrattonbully, sold across Varietal, Single Vineyard and Platinum tiers.

Tastings step up from the $15 Limited Release flight of cellar-door-only wines to a $30 Single Vineyard tasting of seven wines, and the $40 Best of Four Worlds showcases the single-vineyard and Platinum wines from all four regions. There is a $15 gin flight made from estate grapes, and a grazing box to take onto the lawns. A large grassed area has a kids zone and dogs are welcome, which makes it an easy stop for families and groups, though there is no BYO food or alcohol. It opens seven days from 9am, and bookings are preferred, with walk-ins taken when there is space.
