Myrtle and Stone is a cafe in the village of Wollombi that has fed locals from the same building for twenty years, through a run of different owners who mostly still live in the valley. The kitchen runs breakfast and brunch daily, from poached eggs on sourdough to a smashed-avocado toastie. It opens Monday to Friday from 7am and weekends from 8am, closing at 2pm, and no booking is needed for the daytime cafe.
On Thursday evenings the cafe reopens for dinner from 6pm to 9pm, the one night it trades late. Sitting on the main road through Wollombi, near Grays Inn and the Wollombi Tavern, it works as a breakfast or lunch stop at the southern end of the region rather than the Pokolbin cluster. Next door is Myrtle Cottage, a self-contained stay booked through Hunter Valley Escapes, for anyone who wants their morning coffee a short walk from bed.
