The Gates is the restaurant at Leogate Estate, a winery on Broke Road at Pokolbin, cooking a modern Australian menu among the estate grounds and the vines. Its centrepiece is beef the kitchen dry-ages itself, hanging whole primal cuts in an on-site room for four to six weeks before service. The cellar door alongside pours Leogate's own estate wines. It was named Best Restaurant in a Winery in regional NSW at the 2020 Restaurant and Catering awards.
Lunch is the main event, long and unhurried at tables looking over the vineyard. The kitchen also runs dinner and seasonal set-menu events through the year. Bookings are needed, and the estate does not publish firm opening days on its own site, so phone ahead before you plan a stop. Set among a working winery, it suits a long estate lunch built into a day in the vines.
