Grapemobile Bicycle Hire and Tours

Grapemobile hires out bikes for riding the central Pokolbin wine trail at your own pace, from a base on Palmers Lane. The fleet runs from electric bikes at $75 a person to retro and mountain bikes at $65, plus tandems at $130 and kids' bikes ridden with an adult, and each comes with a helmet, a basket and a map of the flat vineyard roads. Despite the name, most of what they offer is self-guided hire rather than a led tour, so you set your own route and turnaround.

Bookings are essential and go through the online system. The bikes are out Saturday and Sunday from 9.30am and on Monday, Thursday and Friday from 10am, with Tuesday and Wednesday closed, so check the day before you plan around it. Many cellar doors along the trail take bookings of their own, worth sorting in advance so a ride doesn't finish at a closed gate.
