Tranquil Vale sits on a bend of the Hunter River at Luskintyre, well east of the Pokolbin cellar doors and quieter for it. Phil and Lucy Griffiths planted the vineyard on a former cattle farm in 1996, and their daughter Connie, a viticulturist and winemaker, took over the running of it with her husband Randeep in 2017. The estate wines are Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz.
Tastings cost $15 a head and are self-paced, with infused olive oils and homemade sourdough or a regional platter to go with them, and a $35 tour walks you through the vines and into the winery to taste from barrel or tank. The tour can be run in Spanish as well as English, there is free EV charging while you taste, and children of all ages are welcome. The cellar door opens Friday to Sunday and public holidays, with weekdays by appointment, so call ahead. There is accommodation on the property if you want to stay out this way.
