Hope Brewery has brewed on site at Hope Estate on Broke Road at Pokolbin since 2014, sharing one cellar-door roof with the family's wine and, since 2020, its own small-batch spirits. The beer runs across a rotating set of taps, from hoppy ales and IPAs through to sours and stouts, and the way to get the measure of it is the four-beer tasting paddle. That paddle is $20 a head, with $15 of it redeemable against a case, so a tasting that turns into a purchase mostly pays for itself. Allow about three-quarters of an hour at the bar.
The cellar door opens Wednesday to Sunday and closes Monday and Tuesday, so plan it for mid-to-late week, and it also shuts on Good Friday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Hope Estate runs a large outdoor concert amphitheatre on the grounds, so a quiet beer paddle can turn into a full day out when a show lines up with your visit. Being able to taste beer, wine and spirits at the one estate makes it an easy single stop for a group with mixed tastes.
