FAR Distilling is a small owner-run gin distillery on Hermitage Road at Pokolbin, on a strip of the valley far better known for its Semillon than its spirits. The gin is made in small batches, with botanicals and other ingredients drawn from Hunter Valley growers and neighbouring producers. A tasting starts at $10 a head and runs about twenty minutes across the new-release range.
This is a booked tasting rather than a walk-in cellar door, and there are no standing opening hours, so call ahead or use the Book A Tasting link on the distillery's site. At around twenty minutes it is a short, hosted pour by the people who made the spirit, which slots in easily alongside the cellar doors already lining Hermitage Road. Bottles are available to buy at the door.
