Fat Cow is a tasting store in a timber lodge on Pokolbin Mountains Road, looking out over the vines, where local cheese is paired with wine, olive oil, vinegars, condiments and chocolate. A seated general tasting runs at $10 a head, guided by staff through the range, and everything you try is sold on site. It is an easy, family-friendly stop between cellar doors rather than a sit-down meal.
The store opens seven days, 10am to 5pm, and closes on Christmas Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Anzac Day. The seated tasting is booked ahead, so lock in a time rather than turning up on spec, and the verandah views make it a good pause when the day needs one.
