Established1853

Draytons is the oldest winery in Pokolbin, established by the Drayton family in 1853 and still running, still family owned, six generations on. The everyday range covers Semillon, Chardonnay, Verdelho and Shiraz, but the part that rewards the drive is the fortifieds: vintage and non-vintage aged Tawnys, Muscats, Aperas and liqueurs, one of the widest selections in Australia.

Aged and museum releases come up from the underground vaults, and the Pioneer and Heritage tastings step through them. The cellar door pairs its wines with food from the on-site cafe, and it opens seven days, closed only on Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Good Friday. No tasting price is published, so call ahead to check, and wine club members get one free tasting a year for up to eight people. If fortified wine is a blank spot for you, this is the place in the valley to fill it in.
