The Australian Alpaca Barn is a family-owned shop selling garments and homewares made from Australian-grown alpaca fibre, spun and finished in Australia, New Zealand or Peru. The range runs from scarves, beanies, socks and gloves up to coats, ponchos, quilts, blankets and knitting yarn. There is nothing to book: it is a browse, so it slots into a gap between cellar doors rather than needing a slot of its own.
The Hunter has two of the stores on the same hours, seven days from 10am to 4pm. One is at Peppers Creek Village on Broke Road, in the middle of the Pokolbin cluster, and the other is at Hunter Valley Gardens a short drive away. Either works as a warm, dry stop on a wet afternoon, or a break for anyone in the group who has had enough wine for one day.
