Wild Ren is Renee Burton's own label, started after two decades in Hunter wine and tourism and a stint co-founding Gundog, and the cellar door sits in the Peppers Creek village on Broke Road. The list runs from traditional Hunter Semillon and Shiraz to a skin-fermented Untamed Semillon, Gruner Veltliner, Vermentino, Tempranillo and a Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre, so it is a useful stop once you have had your fill of the classics.

Walk-ins are taken, and beyond the wine flight there are gin tastings, a wine and chocolate pairing and a non-alcoholic tasting so children are not left out. Dogs are welcome and the room is wheelchair accessible. Prices are not published, so ask at the door. It shares the village with the Comyns & Co and Charteris cellar doors, so you can taste across a few makers on foot. Open seven days, 10am to 4pm.
