Scarborough is a family cellar door built on the Chardonnay boom the Scarboroughs helped drive from their Gillards Road vineyard in the 1980s. The tasting room sits on a rise with a garden and views back across the vines, and Jerome Scarborough now makes the wine across the everyday Offshoot range, the Yellow Label Classics and the single-vineyard Obsessive wines.
Visits are seated, pre-poured flights of five with a matched cheese plate. The 30-minute tasting is $20, and you can theme it around Chardonnay, Semillon or the reds; the hour-long version runs $30 to $50 depending on the range, and there is a self-guided picnic tasting for two at $45 on the lawn. Non-alcoholic sparkling is on hand for drivers and children, and families are welcome, though it does not take hens or bucks parties. Serious Chardonnay drinkers can book the 90-minute Keepers of the Flame vineyard walk and tasting.
