Charteris is the label of PJ Charteris, for twelve years a winemaker at Brokenwood, and his partner Christina Pattison. The range spans two hemispheres: Hunter Valley Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz alongside Riesling and Pinot Noir grown in Central Otago in New Zealand, which is unusual to find poured side by side at one bar.
The entry Charteris Experience is a guided tasting of six wines for $15 over about 45 minutes, and the $25 Trans-Tasman flight sets the Hunter and Otago wines against each other over an hour. The cellar door sits in the Peppers Creek village on Broke Road, alongside Comyns & Co and Wild Ren, so a few makers are within a short walk. No opening hours are published, so book a tasting or call before you drive out.
