Comyns & Co is winemaker Scott Comyns' family label, released in 2016 after more than twenty years with premium Hunter producers. The range moves from classic Hunter Semillon and Shiraz into alternative varieties and blends: a sparkling Gruner Veltliner, Nebbiolo, Tempranillo, and the house blends Scott calls Mrs White and Mr Red, all made in small batches.
The cellar door sits in the Peppers Creek village at Pokolbin, a contemporary room with lake views that Scott and Missy have set up to feel like their own home. It shares the village with the Charteris and Wild Ren cellar doors and the Pukara Estate olive oil boutique, so you can taste across a few makers on foot. A standard tasting is $10 and free for wine club members, with groups capped at eight. There is a Dark and Tawny fortified Shiraz to finish on, and the wine club is free to join. Open seven days.
