St Clair is one of the newer cellar doors in Pokolbin, started in 2021 when the owner left Sydney for the Hunter, learned the trade on a first vineyard at Lovedale, and moved to the Gillards Road site beside the old Honeytree vines in 2025. The room has since been expanded with indoor and outdoor seating, heating and air conditioning, so it works in most weather. Tastings run through the St Clair range, its 'The Thomas' Shiraz and a sparkling Verdelho among them.
Walk-ins are welcome and tour groups are catered for, which is not a given at the smaller places. It opens Thursday to Monday, 10am to 5pm, and is closed Tuesday and Wednesday. The family also lets a nearby house, Holman Estate, that sleeps eight to twelve, so a group can taste and stay without a drive home at the end of the day.
