Audrey Wilkinson sits on one of the higher points in Pokolbin, a hilltop cellar door with long views back across the vines to the Brokenback ranges, worth timing as a first or last stop for the outlook alone. The Wilkinson family planted here in 1866, and the original winery now holds a free museum of the estate's history, open the same hours as the door. Semillon is the drawcard, with the estate Shiraz alongside; the property took first prize for Claret at the 1916 Sydney Royal Show. The Agnew family has owned it since 2004.
Standard tastings start at $15, rising through a premium flight and a Heritage Cellar sitting of older museum-release wines, with picnics among the vines for longer visits. Book ahead, since weekends sell out well in advance. It opens daily, ten to five, closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day. There are cottages on the estate if you would rather stay than drive home.
