Weerona is winemaker Michael Partridge's label, taking back the name his family gave the homestead they built on the Hunter five generations ago. The cellar door is on McDonalds Road at Pokolbin, and it is built around booked experiences rather than a walk-in bar, with Shiraz, Chardonnay, Cabernet and a Riesling in the range.

Partridge runs a three-hour Meet the Winemaker masterclass and lunch for $145 a couple, built around six regional wines tasted side by side, a run through food pairing and a blind tasting game to finish. The longer Find the Hidden Jades day, $225 a couple, puts you in a car with a private sommelier, includes local pick-up and lunch, and takes in two smaller cellar doors that most itineraries never reach. The masterclass runs about three hours and the wine-hunting day about four, so both are half-day commitments rather than a quick stop. Neither walk-in prices nor set hours are published, so contact the winery before you plan a visit around it.
