Binet Family Wines pours two labels from one bar: Ballabourneen, planted by Alex and Di Stuart more than twenty-five years ago to Chardonnay, Verdelho and Shiraz, and Daniel Binet's own Domaine de Binet. The Lovedale cellar door sits next to Tatler on Lovedale Road and works to booked tasting sessions rather than drop-in trade, so plan the time.
The entry Lovedale tasting is $15, with a $25 premium flight above it, and the one to book ahead for is Winemaker for a Day, a session where you blend your own wine and then drink it over a picnic hamper of Binnorie Dairy cheese for $150. There is also a $60 winemaker-guided tour and a $120 blending experience with cheese and charcuterie. A second cellar door sits at Pokolbin Hill on McDonalds Road. Between the two labels and the hands-on sessions, it rewards people who want to get past the tasting bar.
