De Bortoli's Hunter Valley cellar door is a stop where the tasting reaches well beyond the local wines. The family makes across several Australian regions, so a flight here can take in the Hunter single vineyard Chardonnay, Shiraz and Rose alongside the premium fortifieds and Noble One, the sweet wine the label is best known for. It sits on Wine Country Drive in Pokolbin and opens seven days.
The tasting is $10 a head, redeemable against a bottle if you buy, with groups capped at ten. A selection of food is served to go with the wines, which makes it an easy mid-morning or early-afternoon stop before or after lunch nearby. It reads as a good introduction for anyone who wants range in one place, from an everyday white to a fortified worth lingering over.
