Briar Ridge sits on the Mount View mountainside south of Pokolbin, a long-running Hunter producer working across a Single Vineyard range and its varietal wines, with Semillon, Shiraz and Chardonnay at the heart of it. The higher ground gives the cellar door a genuine outlook over the vines rather than a car park view. It is one of the few in the area with EV charging on site.
The standard tasting is $15 a head; a premium Single Vineyard tasting runs at $25 across a set of the estate's better parcels. The cellar door opens six days, with Tuesday sales only and no tasting, Sunday from 11am to 4pm, and last tastings from 4pm on the other days. Dogs are welcome, with a pooch platter on the menu, and a Wine Garden picnic of local cheese and cured meats stretches a visit into something longer. It works well as a first or last stop, since the drive up Mount View Road is a little further out than the Pokolbin cluster.
