Elbourne is a family vineyard on the Terra Rossa hills of Marrowbone Road, with four acres of Chardonnay and four of Shiraz now around thirty-five years old. Each makes about 200 cases a year, bottled as The Grace and the H.A.E. Shiraz after the family's two youngest children, and there are small parcels of Tempranillo, Sagrantino, Vermentino and Mencia besides.
Tastings are held at the family home on Fridays and Saturdays by request, with extra days in the school holidays. There is no kitchen, so a cheese platter of your own is welcome, and a play area and sandpit keep children busy. Rather than spray, the vineyard breeds lacewings and ladybirds from a Department of Primary Industries programme. Book ahead through the website or by phone, since there are no set opening hours, and the family also lets The Residence, a self-contained house for ten at Lovedale.
