Wine House is a shared cellar door on McDonalds Road in Pokolbin, pouring more than fifteen small, family-owned Hunter makers under one roof. Many of them have no cellar door of their own, so this is the place to taste a spread of independent local labels side by side rather than driving between them. Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz anchor the list, alongside sparkling, rose and a few fortifieds.
The Hunter Unearthed tasting is $15 a head and runs about 45 minutes; the hour-long Icon Wine Journey is $30, with an Oasis tasting plate at $45 if you want something to eat with it. Larger groups of eight or more can book a private tasting. The room opens Thursday to Monday from 11am to 5pm, closed Tuesday and Wednesday except by arrangement. It suits a group with mixed tastes, since everyone can find something without committing the whole day to one estate.
