Hunter Farm Wines is the cellar door at the Hunter Valley Resort and Farm, on the corner of Hermitage Road and Mistletoe Lane, pouring from rooms set among vines planted fifty-five years ago. Alongside its own label it stocks a shortlist of small Hunter producers, Lisa McGuigan, First Creek, Andrew Thomas and Margan among them, so a single stop covers ground several separate drives would otherwise take.
The daily Wine Theatre pairs a short film on a year of winemaking with a $40 guided tutorial on sweetness, acidity and tannin, and the two-hour $60 Wine School walks the vineyard then runs a proper tasting lesson with a certificate at the end. Grape stomping and barrel rolling back up the working-farm half of the name. It opens daily, 10am to 4pm. It is aimed at people newer to wine who want to learn as they taste, and it does that better than most.
