Boydell's grows its fruit on a working farm at East Gresford, up near the Barrington Tops, but you taste it forty minutes away in a slab hut in the historic village of Morpeth. The tasting is seated for $10, and you either choose your own six wines or hand the choice to the team and tell them what you normally drink.
The Hunter range is topped up with cool-climate fruit from Hilltops and Orange, and the vineyard carries full sustainability accreditation. The restaurant next door runs a seasonal share-plate menu built around the same wines, open Thursday to Sunday, and the wine bar keeps going with small plates until 6.30pm. On Sundays there is a two-hour Feed Me, Wine Me sitting for $110. Morpeth is a detour from the vineyards proper, but it is a pretty town, and the food here is a genuine reason to make it.
