Travertine sits on a limestone dome a few minutes from the New England Highway and Hermitage Road interchange, at the Branxton end of the Hunter. The planting is broad for a small maker: Chardonnay, Verdelho and Fiano among the whites, and Shiraz, Tannat and Chambourcin among the reds, with a sparkling rose as well. The wines are made to reflect that limestone ground.
There is no walk-in cellar door here. Visits are by appointment only and the tasting is complimentary, arranged by emailing sales@travertinewines.com.au ahead of time, and groups of six or more need to book in advance. That makes it a stop to plan rather than chance on the day, and a good option if you would rather taste with time and quiet than join a queue.
